The Client’s needs: Our client suffers from asthma and environmental allergies and lives in a newer condominium building.
AirThinx IAQ Data: We noticed that humidity levels in her apartment were dropping below normal seasonal levels which would make the indoor air very dry. We also noticed that her airborne dust levels suddenly increased (likely because of cigarette smoke next door).
Outcome: We were able to help our client fix her air quality issues the moment it happened! We got in touch with our client and walked her through fixing the poor indoor air quality before it would produce an allergic reaction and affect her health. We advised her to plug in a portable humidifier and increase her humidity by 15% and also run her HEPA air filtration device. Her humidity levels were raised preventing dry indoor air which can cause sinus irritation and even infections. Her dust levels were quickly reduced to levels that would prevent an allergic response.

Gilbane integrates airthinx platform with new software system TRIRIGA to optimize labor demand
The Client’s needs: I reviewed several IAQ sensors and pricing. Some sensors monitored temperature/humidity/pressure. Other sensors monitored between 7 to 9 different IAQ readings. I needed an IAQ solution that not only monitored readings associated with comfort, but also readings associated with employee health, safety and productivity (CO2, tVOCs, CH2O, and Particulate Matter). AirThinx provided the most complete set of IAQ readings, so I was willing to pay a premium for the AirThinx solution.
AirThinx IAQ Data: I tested the AirThinx sensors in several corporate office buildings. We discovered high CO2 patterns, which were high enough to start affecting employee productivity at work. Over the testing period, we also observed patterns across the day and week that correlated with the effectiveness of the HVAC systems. On occasion we observed VOC spikes that set off a notification, due to cleaning activities in the area and employees using spray in the office area.
Outcome: In these cases, we recommended an increase in airflow in those areas during the afternoon hours to control the CO2 levels.
Role of Facilities Management: As a Facilities Management Consultant, I was interested in integrating the IAQ monitoring system with a customer’s existing FM software. I tested the integration of AirThinx with an IWMS solution called TRIRIGA. The initial integration was to display the most current IAQ readings with the room space record in the FM system. The primary integration goal was to automatically generate a Work Order from the FM system to the Maintenance Staff or Health Safety Officer when an alert is created by the AirThinx system. A secondary integration point between AirThinx and the client’s FM system is the existing CAFM floor plans. The idea is to color-code room spaces based on their IAQ readings. This visualization of IAQ readings on a CAFM floor plan would provide a better understanding of the relationship between the IAQ readings in a space versus the Space-Use and the HVAC system supporting that space.
Integration: The ultimate goal would be to integrate the AirThinx system directly with the Building BAS control system in order to automatically adjust the HVAC requirements based on current IAQ readings. For example, increasing airflow to areas where the CO2 readings are drifting higher in the afternoons. This is about not only keeping your work spaces comfortable, but also keeping it healthy and productive.
The radiotherapists are very happy, and the hospital has not spent $50,000 on a new AC system to control the air quality conditions in the room.

Suspected Problem: An overheating problem in the Radiotherapy Planning Room that was part of a VAV air conditioning system with a dedicated VAV unit serving the Room. The client suspected they would need to replace their AC system.
Initial Observations: A preliminary inspection confirmed the room was, in fact, warm (25C) and conditions were stuffy.
Airthinx IAQ Data: After 2 days of monitoring the indoor air quality, the data indicated an odd pattern in the Temperature and Carbon Dioxide trends. The temperature was steady at 25 C +-0.5 C, regardless of time of day and the room use, and the CO2 was swinging wildly, peaking at 2000 ppm- confirming the feeling of stale air at the preliminary inspection.
Review of the Original System Design: With this new information, there was a review of the original system design which indicated that the VAV unit should be more than capable of providing enough fresh air to control the buildup of CO2.
Role of Facilities Management: A review of the new air quality data by the Facility Management department prompted a review of the Building Management System logs in the Room. A technician then checked the VAV box, finding a broken drive linkage on the VAV box. The technician fixed the VAV box.
Outcome: 10 mins after the VAV box was fixed, conditions in the room changed for the better, ruling out the suspected problem of an overload in the room as the source of air pollution. The room is now controlled at 22C, and CO2 remains steady at 600 ppm.
What the Client Said: The radiotherapists are very happy, and the hospital has not spent $50,000 on a new AC system to control the air quality conditions in the room.
Employees feel safer knowing that the air quality is being monitored continuously in real-time, creating a positive cultural impact.

The Client’s needs: Midwestern Electrical Utility needed to assess Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in several of their facilities. Meanwhile, I can just as easily log-in to my app or computer and monitor the IAQ remotely in collaboration with the off site personnel.
Affordability: The attention to detail, like the calibration of the monitor’s built-in sensors. are included in the annual subscription, that is a very low cost.
Risk Management: Over the last several decades, there have many inquiries into the air quality conditions at one specific facility. With the use of the Airthinx, we conclusively demonstrated that in fact, there was no issue. The Client’s needs: We have a lot of smart home devices today. But can you really call a home smart if it doesn’t know whether or not your most critical environment is safe? My home furnace was venting exhaust into my house for at least three to five months and I had no clue. Until I started using a home air quality sensor. My family had some symptoms over the past few months, ever since we had redone the siding on the home. But we didn’t connect the dots.
AirThinx IAQ Data: The Airthinx showed shocking levels of Carbon dioxide in my house that were five times normal levels and regularly safe exposure limits. Our levels were hitting 5,000 and plateauing there.
Outcome: Only when we knew that the C02 levels were that high, however, did we start to explore why, and learn the cause. Unbeknownst to us, the workers putting siding on the house had impacted the furnace exhaust piping, jostling it enough so that a poorly attached connection to the furnace popped off. We were literally breathing combustion exhaust.
